The feel

To hide is to place something out of sight, covering it so it cannot be found. The root holds both treasure hidden again for joy and a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Hiding is a tool: its meaning turns on what you cover, why, and for how long.

Matthew 13:44

The reign of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. A man found it and hid it again, and in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.

damṭašyā … wṭašyāh , "hidden … and he hid it": the root twice in one verse, once as the treasure's state, once as the finder's glad act.

Matthew 5:14

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.

dteṭše , "be hidden": the passive, negated. Some things are structurally past concealing.

Matthew 10:26

So don't be afraid of them. Nothing is covered that won't be uncovered, nothing hidden that won't be made known.

damṭašay : "hidden," face to face with netgle , "be uncovered" (Day 46). The pair of roots states the rule of the tier in a single line.

Practice

Hold both images in mind: treasure waiting safely for its moment, and a hilltop city pretending it cannot be seen. Take one slow breath, then name one covering of each kind.

Say tashshi softly: name one treasure you protect, then one hilltop city you can no longer hide.
